Dig That Funky Statue

How's this for a quote:

The Moscow City Duma monuments commission has rejected a proposal to erect a statue of President Vladimir Putin in central Moscow, with one official saying it was an issue for "future generations."

"In civilized countries, the importance of social and political leaders is determined 50 years after their departure from power," Lavryonov was quoted as saying. "Let us leave this question to future generations."

I thought this was kind of funny but it looks like someone got the bright idea to erect a statue of Putin (probably Putin came up with the idea) in a town square. (You can read about it at the Moscow Times) Look, if somebody wants to put up a statue of Putin hey more power to them. But the guy isn't retired yet…you would think that they would wait until he calls it a career. Then again, you wouldn't want him to be too old to enjoy the big ole' pile of self aggrandizement that a statue would provide.
